A college football player from Maine wanted in a fatal stabbing was arrested in Augusta on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

University of Maine running back Zedric Joseph was arrested in connection with the stabbing death of Ricardy Chery on Friday in West Palm Beach, Fla., officials say.

The sheriff’s office did not release details on how Joseph was located.

“The arrest was made by the U.S. Marshal’s,” Sgt. Glen Rahn said. “We didn’t have anything to do with it. It’s not our case. All we’re doing is housing (Joseph).”

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Wednesday that Joseph was being held in Richmond County on a Palm Beach County warrant.

After responding to a call, Palm Beach deputies found Chery and a 23-year-old woman, Vashti Laurore, who had been stabbed in the hand. Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where Chery died from multiple stab wounds. Laurore was treated and released.

University of Maine officials say Joseph was suspended from the school Saturday after they learned of the stabbings. The 23-year-old South Florida native is a senior majoring in child development and family relations.

Not practicing what he was

Not practicing what he was being taught. Kind of ironic. We need to know more details of what happened.
