The three women injured at Dollar General on Baston Road were sent to Georgia Regents Medical Center, according to Columbia County Battalion Chief Anthony Lovett.

The driver had “very minor injuries,” he said. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said the driver was being questioned and that the investigation is ongoing.

“The cashier suffered the most serious injuries,” Lovett said. “The crash took out the register, and the cashier’s leg was hurt pretty badly.”

The incident was reported at 7:07 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

“I was walking back toward the store when I heard everything happen,” witness Angela Lozano said.

“The driver didn’t try to stop or anything. She barely missed a guy standing in front of the door, and then she crashed right through the glass.”

The Volkswagen Jetta directly hit the cashier’s station, Lozano said.

“The cashier was pinned underneath the car,” she said. “We thought about trying to get her out, but her leg was bleeding pretty badly, so we didn’t want to risk making it worse.”

After the crash, the driver exited the store, Lozano said.

“It looked like she was trying to leave the scene,” she said. “But people outside stopped her and made sure she stayed.”

?

I wonder if this is a copycat of the Kroger incidents? Initially I was thinking maybe the foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal since that happens occasionally. But after reading this story it appears to be intentional. Prayers for the cashier injured in this incident.

Shopping can be dangerous

It seems this happens quite often now...why, I'm wondering.

Don't know what happened

Don't know what happened here, but there are too many cases of "foot slipping off brake", "thought I was in reverse but was in drive", etc. If you can't react quickly enough to remedy your mistake before jumping the curb and crashing through the storefront, you don't need to be driving. COMPREHENSIVE TESTS IN SIMULATORS are needed for public safety.

Sounds like

maybe the driver felt disrespected by someone. Bet it was on purpose.

Answers?

Driver being questioned? Investigation ongoing? Why are there no answers if the driver only had minor injuries.

Perhaps she was not looking

Perhaps she was not looking ahead but down....
If my foot slipped off the brake it would not likely go to the gas pedal. I guess it would depend on the position of the automobile pedals though.

Does not sound like a foot

Does not sound like a foot slipping off a brake pedal. Quite the opposite, but the foot did not slip off the gas pedal. She did not try to brake, according to the article. And she tried to leave the scene. Throw the book at her!

I hope the employee sues

I hope the employee sues Dollar General for failure to install vehicle barricades in front of the doors. If you notice places like Walmart and drive through fast food have these things in front of the main doors and by the drive through window for this very reason.
