An Augusta man accused of beating his teenage stepdaughter, leaving cut and bruised, was granted a $15,000 bond Friday.

Dejesus Gardner, 32, faces a charge of cruelty to children after a middle school official called the sheriff’s office. The 13-year-old told deputies Gardner had beaten her with a belt.

Defense attorney Greg Leopard told the judge Friday in Richmond County Superior Court that Gardner had discovered the girl had been exchanging explicit messages with a 22-year-old man who lives in Augusta. Leopard said the teen had formed two prior inappropriate online relationships with adults in the past.

As a condition of bond, Gardner is not to have contact with his stepchildren.

Well why hasn't the 22 Y/o been arrested.

At least Mr. Gardner tried to do something.
Reading between the lines, a person could surmise there is a possibility that the Teen is getting even with Mr. Gardner by overstating the abuse.

I will be interested in the details once they sneak out.

BTW: Question to real the Fathers and Daddies out there.

How would any of you have handled it?
At 13, I'd restricted her, took the phone and Internet away then hunted down the Child Molester?

My parents would've beaten me

My parents would've beaten me for that, too. They would've considered it far better than to be molested, raped, or even killed.

And as a parent myself, I agree with that.

She had already done it twice, she was defiant and doing something life-threatening.

That man should not be punished. Bruises heal, being murdered doesn't.

Back in the old days, he wouldn't have been arrested.

C-Mom - We agree again

I can remember more than 1 young adult being escorted down a dirt road by Fathers out here on the South Side.

Like I already asked.

Why hasn't the 22 Year old been arrested or at least his name published.
