Winter Storm Pax put a freeze on blood donations over the past three days, the Shepeard Community Blood Center announced Friday.

The organization estimates that the winter storm prevented it from collecting more than 400 units of blood for the local blood supply, according to a statement Friday. All blood drives scheduled early this week were cancelled.

To make up for the loss, the center will open all three of it’s locations for the weekend. Centers in Augusta, Aiken and Evans will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. to receive donations.

Additionally, bloodmobiles will be located a various locations throughout the area.

“Local patients depend on your willing, faithful blood donation, especially at times like these,” according to the release. “Please help us recover and replace the needed blood supply.”

Donors must be at least 17 years old to donate without parental permission, or 16 years old with a signed parental consent form. Forms are available on the organizations Web site, shepeardblood.org.
