A 20-year-old Augusta man has been charged with several crimes after his car struck a police officer’s leg when it sped away from a traffic stop.

According to a Richmond County sheriff’s incident report, an officer pulled over a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer about 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Deans Bridge Road because the driver, identified as Montrey Shavarez Scott, of Dahlia Drive, was not wearing a seatbelt. The officer said Scott appeared very nervous and there was a marijuana odor coming from the car. The officer had already taken Scott’s driver’s license information when another deputy arrived at the scene.

One of the officers was attempting to talk to the driver about possible drugs in the car when he put the car in gear and drove off, striking the deputy’s leg.

Police said the Lancer reached speeds of about 85 mph in the 45 mph zone before the driver crashed into a mailbox on Libby Drive.

The driver and passenger ran from the vehicle. Although neither were located, police did find about 12 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.

Scott was picked up by police Monday on charges of failure to yield, too fast for conditions, not wearing a seatbelt, failure to stop upon hitting a fixture, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, fleeing and attempting to elude and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

The injured officer was taken to University Hospital for treatment.

When you don't have many

When you don't have many brains, that fight or flight instinct will kick your butt every time. Just makes you do dumb stuff.

They just can't help it. There's no impulse control in their entire body. That's why they go from jam after jam. This is what you get when kids aren't taught right from wrong.

It is pretty depressing to be

It is pretty depressing to be living in America today. At this moment the most discussed is a fired major city in GA's administrator is not running for mayor (that should have been a given), a felon (braking and entering with gun, unless he was stealing that), shoots a dog who happens to be a service dog, 2 teens, who should know better, are responsible for posting an illegally posted picture, a stupid guy racks up charges for running over a public safety officer after a traffic stop, and ffinally trouble in MLK's family.

Hold on to the last one. That has been one troubled family for decades. SR had his problems with the law prior to the prominence of his son, I was told by people connected with law enforcement.

I don't have a link to the proof of that. It could be part of MLK's sealed records that won't be released anytime soon.

I was told this before records got sealed.

"U can take me out the hood

"U can take me out the hood but u can't take the hood out me"

That's straight from his FB page, the one where he's flashing gang signs in every picture.

Another Augustan with a bright, shining future.

KSL, I searched the old

KSL, I searched the old newspapers, and all I could come up with is that MLK SR had a car with a defective muffler.

He posted bond for a black minister who was arrested for violating a segregation law.

But yes, that family is deeply troubled and has been for many years. But it stands to reason that his kids would have trouble, most people whose parent was murdered when they were a child have a lot of trouble in the future, it's so traumatic.

"montrey shavarez" do i need
Unpublished

"montrey shavarez" do i need to go down the list...first the "ethnic" name which leads to he's black, has priors, high school dropout, priduct of a single parent (unwed mother) household, household dependent on welfare, foo stamps, wic, gov't voucher, medicaid, and free lunch..the mother (of course-not/never married) she has little or no work history/high school dropout-functional illiterate, 4+ add'l kids at home, she had "ole montrey" when she was 13years old and of course her mother was a product of the welfare system as well probably around 46 years old herself.....see where i am going with this...systematic and generational welfare dependency/single-parent home life leading to non-educated, high school dropout, criminal who will spend the rest of his life in and out of jail, preying on victims until one day he will run up on the wrong person then hs mammy will be at his funeral saying "eyes aint not don't caint fo sho why dey had to shoots mah son he aint not a bad kid, he a guut boy he jess git caught up, dey could hab shoot him in dey leg or sump-in". thank goodness there is not bail (hey's flagged for do not release) so at least his "sorry azz mammy and trifling grandmammy can't use their welfare and foo stamps to bail him out
