Two Augusta women told police they were held at gunpoint by an acquaintance early Friday.
Bridgett Dozier, 44, told police that she and Mechelle Ramsey, 44, were on their way home when Dozier recognized a friend of her son, a Richmond County sheriff’s report states. Because of the cold weather, Dozier offered a ride to the black male, who is known to go by the names Leonard or Lindsey. He told Dozier to drop him off on Barnes Lane, where his sister lived.
When they arrived at Starnes Street and Barnes Lane, the suspect got out and brandished a silver handgun, demanding the women hand over their purses. He then reached into the car, stole Ramsey’s purse and fired a shot into the air before fleeing.
At the scene, police found Ramsey’s purse and a .40-caliber bullet casing, according to the report. Ramsey told police all items were still in the purse except for her money.
The suspect is described as about 6 feet tall and about 190 pounds. He has long dreadlocks and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweater and camouflage jacket.
