Jury selection began Monday for an Augusta man facing capital murder charges in a 2008 triple homicide.

A Richmond County Superior Court jury selected this week will be asked to determine whether Adrian Hargrove, 36, is competent to stand trial on charges that include murder, feticide and kidnapping.

Hargrove has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

He is accused of the Feb. 9, 2008, stabbing deaths of Andrew Hartley Jr., 45, and his wife, Sharon Hartley, 46. He is also accused of killing their pregnant daughter, 18-year-old Allyson Pederson.

If Hargrove is found competent to stand trial, he will stand trial next month. If convicted, the jury in that trial will be asked to determine punishment – life in prison with or without the possibility of parole, or death.

The trial against Hargrove has been postponed repeatedly because of extensive mental evaluations, several changes in defense attorneys assigned by the Capital Defender’s Office, and emergency situations that prevented witnesses and attorneys from being in court.

Hargrove has been held in jail since his 2008 arrest.

The Hartleys were found stabbed to death in the bedroom of their Bennock Mill Road home. Pederson’s body was found set on fire off the Lock and Dam Road near Augusta Regional Airport.

believe that a murderer should ( in this sorry LIBERAL society) be given a weekend jail sentence, sent "home" afterwards to live with his/her defense attorney until death do them part. A murderer should always be the subject of compassion. Damn the victims.

2008 arrest?!?!?!? are you kidding me this monkey/ape gorilla [filtered word]should have be executed a long time ago..but i guess since he's black that he killed those people because of slavery and racism and that "why-tee" held him down so he couldn't get an education and be a success in life....
i wonder if the hawk brothers are defending him, becasue defending murders in an attempt to get them acquitted is right up their alley, they enjoy taking blood money from butchers and i am sure they sleep very well

He's been in jail for FIVE YEARS without a trial????!!

Even if he is guilty, this is way excessive. I think some of the other people involved in this case need to have their mental competence evaluated!
