Police said Rickey Grover Smith, 62, had been arguing with his brother, Mack Steve Smith, and another man, Christopher Padgett, 39, at the brothers’ home in the 1900 block of Moore Road. The elder brother went into his bedroom, got a gun and shot both men, police said.

Padgett, who was shot at least once in the chest, was pronounced dead at the scene after 11 p.m.

Mack Smith remains at Georgia Regents Medical Center in critical condition but is stable.

Rickey Smith was booked into the Richmond County jail Saturday on charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The death was Richmond County’s second homicide of 2014.
