Man pleads guilty to transporting child pornography

A North Carolina man who traveled to Evans to have a sexual encounter with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court.

Although John Langer, 37, was initially arrested on charges associated with the attempt to have sex with minor, he pleaded guilty to transportation of child pornography for the images he had on a phone when arrested at a Columbia County park on Sept. 9.

Columbia County sheriff’s Investigator Brian Jones, who works on the FBI task force targeting people who try to meet minors through social media sites, testified Thursday there was no evidence that Langer traded or created the child pornography.

Langer will be sentenced later. The punishment for the crime is five to 20 years in prison.
