About 10:30 p.m. Dec. 22, the silver Tao-Tao moped was stolen from Budget Inn at 441 Broad St., according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office report.

Surveillance footage showed a red late-model Chevrolet pickup backing into a space near the moped, where a white male exited the truck and walked around before getting in again.

About two minutes later, three white males got out of the truck, grabbed the moped and heaved it into the bed of the truck before leaving the scene. According to the report, the theft took less than five minutes.

Police say the victim, Danny J. Osbon, 52, of North Augusta, was in a hospital the day the moped was stolen.
