The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the burglary of 25 self-storage units in two separate Augusta rental facilities.

Midway Storage and Rental on Barton Chapel Road reported burglaries in 11 units, while American Storage on Wrightsboro Road told police that crooks entered 14, according to a sheriff’s office incident report. The storage facilities are less than two miles apart.

Officials from the two facilities believe the units were ransacked between 6 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The Midway Storage and Rental was the first to report a burglary. The manager told police that when she arrived at work about 9 a.m., the groundskeeper said he found 11 storage units and two vehicles burglarized.

All the storage units had padlocks that appeared to be cut with bolt cutters.

Authorities have not determined how burglars entered Midway but believe robbers got into American Storage through a hole cut in its security fence at the rear of its property along Beaver Drive. While conducting a business check, a deputy noticed the hole and discovered fresh tire tracks and footprints on the ground nearby.

The business, which was also burglarized on Christmas, had multiple locks laying on the ground near the opened units.

Nothing is sacred, nothing is safe.

It's a shame that these lame thieves take from the rest of this world. It's not even to pay their bills or feed their children. It's to feed their vile habits. God help these idiots. I have no problem helping someone that's truly down and out, but ain't being the front runner for their bs sob stories when I know they are doing drugs and have already used up their excuses with family. People are just tired of taking care of those that refuse to take responsibility and take care of themselves.

It sounds like these storage

It sounds like these storage units are just easy prey for anyone in need of some fast cash, and if the locks can be cut with bolt cutters so easily then they’re certainly not offering a good service to the customers. The facility had better take care as people will see them as being unreliable and stop using them and then the company will be out of business as quick as.
