Police said Kemal Aydin was in a 2003 GMC Sonoma pickup about 5:40 p.m. when he turned left from a private drive at International Paper, 4278 Mike Padgett Highway, into the path of a 2004 BMW 300Ci. Police said the northbound BMW hit the left side of the truck. Aydin, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver of the BMW had injuries that were not life threatening.

Become a infamous spot

There was another traffic death in this same general spot 2 years ago? The situation was similar with a vehicle pulling out of Southern Glassine Rd and the driver was killed.

In 2012 there were 4 deaths.Making it officially Augusta Death Rd.

But as I understand it, GADOT will start construction in 2014 and be done by 2016 (2018 more likely). The suggested fixes will completely change the look and flow of Hwy 56 and has already closed a few businesses.

From a safety standpoint, a BMW beats a 2003 GMC Sonoma pickup any day. They guy who had more money to spend on a vehicle has his life preserved.

My condolences to the family

The fact that others have died in this same mile of highway is no condolence. But it may help the family, a little, to understand the road design itself, has and continues to play a major role in these accidents.
