According to a police report, a deputy stopped a 2000 Ford Explorer for a window-tint violation about 1:30 p.m. at Deans Bridge Road and Augusta Tech Drive, but the SUV sped away when the deputy stopped to get out of his vehicle.
Police said the Explorer was traveling about 90 mph, disregarding traffic signals and signs before it hit a median while turning at Gordon Highway and Old Savannah Road. The vehicle overturned twice before coming to a rest in the parking lot of Thermal Ceramics, 2102 Gordon Highway.
The driver, Michael Christopher Jackson, of Taylor Street, and the passenger, Jason Ashley Blasingame, of Stockbridge, Ga., were taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center before being booked into the Richmond County jail.
A search of the suspects and vehicles uncovered 4.7 grams of methamphetamine, 1 gram of heroin, less than 1 gram of MDMA/Ecstasy, nine Alprazolam pills and more than $1,600 in cash, police said.
The suspects were charged with possession of heroin, possession of MDMA, possession of Alprazolam and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Jackson also was charged with reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude, driving while license suspended or revoked, and material on front windshield/obstructs view.
