According to a Columbia County sheriff’s incident report, Hiers, 68, was at CVS, 3527 Old Petersburg Road on Tuesday afternoon when employees witnessed him putting CoverGirl make-up and a bottle of Aleve in his pants pockets before leaving the store without paying.

Police said Hiers claimed he didn’t want to stand in the long line so he decided not to pay. A woman, who was with him and had handed him the items in the store, told police she was not aware he intended to steal the items.

Hiers was charged with shoplifting and released from the detention center later that day.

Hiers served on the former Richmond County Commission from 1979 to 1982 and was its chairman in 1980.

WHAT??

This is by far the worst excuse/defense I have every heard! I want to be on the jury in this case so I can roll about laughing as he testifies!

People that know Bill Hiers

People that know Bill Hiers know how he is. Personally, I don't see CVS spending the money to prosecute for that small of a purchase amount. Besides, Hiers will probably get one of his lawyer buddies to fanangle the charge agaist him to be dropped. Wouldn't be the first time.

Publix

I see he and his lady friend at publix on Furys Ferry all the time. I guess they need to frisk him before he leaves, if there is a long line.

I think he was put on the commission so the power brokers could control him. He was always Mr. PARTY. He is not the smartest guy around.

Living proof

Living proof that killing brain cells, overuse of hairspray, running the streets and bad shoes (saddle oxfords) will not kill you..........

Just Maybe he needs Doctor as much as Lawyer

I hope if he needs mental help he will get it instead of jail, if he needs jail and not mental help then so be it.

I believe this gentleman works in the real estate business. An appropriate choice of career for someone of dubious character. Remind me never to buy a house from him.

corgimom, The woman gave him the "Cover Girl" make up to steal. That is fairly involved as far as the law should be concerned, I have no idea why she was not charged. Must be a fairly good lier. thanks for the mug shot info.
