Police are searching for a bandit who walked away with $3,600 in hams Friday night.

According to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a truck driver discovered Saturday morning that someone had cut off the lock of his trailer and stole 36 cases of Carolina hams. His truck was parked overnight in the rear lot at Pilot, 2975 Gun Club Road.

The driver told police the cases weighed more than 50 pounds each.

Tip for police

You probably won't find him in a synagogue.

Also, BOLO for massive thefts of bread loaves, cases of mustard, tomatoes, etc.

Shouldn't be that hard to get

Shouldn't be that hard to get more info on this. The thief will sell them to the lowlife citizens who feel this is an oppurtunity and not a crime. I've got a few of these stellar folks I work with, so if I hear of any of them being involved, I won't feel badly calling the cops. I've heard conversations about them going to the IGA parking lot in south Augusta, and buying hot videos, perfume, tools, handbags, clothing, and steak! One of the classy women I know goes to a popular downtown church where they have a wonderful program feeding the poor...she's one of the ones in charge of distributing the food, but she also brags about distributing some to her house and her daughter's house (no..not poor, just "deserving").

It is so sad

there is scum everywhere you look. One wonders how they can live with themselves, but I guess they don't have any conscience or a soul.

Where was the driver?

To hi-jack a load that size takes another truck to haul it
and about 15 to 20 minutes.

There is a "black market" for

There is a "black market" for ham? What da heck are they going to do with so many cases of hams? I bet they are wonderin' the same thing. Maybe someone with affluenza stole them to give away as a philanthropic gesture.

I wonder...

I wonder if it was the gang from 'Animal Farm'. Have Wilbur, Arnold, Maxwell, or Kermit's girlfriend been questioned about this?

The Great Augusta Ham-caper 2013. I love it.

ahem, I mean that's a shame for the owners to take the loss right before Christmas.
