Boy, 8, remains on life support

Scott William Hancock, 20, is charged with reckless driving.

An 8-year-old boy who was hit Monday morning while boarding a school bus on Belair Road remained in critical condition on life support at Georgia Regents Medical Center, Richmond County sheriff’s deputies said Tuesday.

Jaidyn Williams was walking across the westbound lanes of the 3800 block of Belair Road about 7:10 a.m. to board the No. 72 bus to Sue Reynolds Elementary School when a westbound Chrysler Town & Country minivan struck him.

Deputies have not said why the vehicle’s driver, Scott William Hancock, 20, of Augusta, failed to stop for the bus’ caution lights and stop sign. Hancock was being held at the Richmond County jail Tuesday, charged with failure to stop for a school bus while loading and unloading and with reckless driving.
