THOMSON — A bus driver in Glascock County has been placed on leave pending a legal investigation into her arrest for DUI.

Angel Renee Coxwell was arrested Nov. 1 by the Georgia State Patrol near Dearing Elementary in McDuffie County. Authorities said Coxwell delivers a Glascock County child for special services at Dearing Elementary.

There was not a child on the bus at the time of the traffic stop.

A McDuffie County sheriff’s deputy noticed a Glascock County school bus swerving on the road near the school. After a traffic stop, the state patrol was called.

Coxwell was charged with driving under the influence and booked into the McDuffie County jail. She was released the same day on a $1,050 bond.

Coxwell told authorities she was taking a medication prescribed for her the day before the incident occurred.
