The computer was at the Dublin Drive home where Glenn Vincent Riggs II, 22, lived with his grandmother. Two days after Dr. Charles Mann III disappeared, Riggs told a Richmond County sheriff’s detective that Mann responded to a Web site post that Riggs had made Nov. 21.

According to the affidavit, Riggs gave Mann his address and phone number after they exchanged messages about sex. Riggs told the detective his intention was to rob the 60-year-old general surgeon, who worked at Southern Palmetto Hospital in Barnwell, S.C.

Riggs is now in jail facing charges of murder and robbery.

Richmond County deputies had been looking for Mann since Nov. 21, when his 2006 Honda Accord was found near Old Louisville Road and Satcher Boulevard. The first deputy on the scene, Calvin Davis, saw blood on the rear bumper, and when he opened the trunk he found a lot more blood, according to the affidavit.

Inside the vehicle, officers found a piece of paper with Riggs’ address and phone number. When an officer went to the address, Riggs answered the door. He denied knowing Mann and he said he couldn’t identify a photograph of the doctor.

After the visit, Riggs posted a message on a friend’s Facebook page: “I killed a man ... the law is on to me...”, according to the search warrant affidavit.

Riggs told his grandmother not to return home the evening of Nov. 23 because a visiting friend had a seizure in the house and Riggs was trying to clean up his blood, according to the affidavit.

Mann’s body was found that day in Spirit Creek at Willis Foreman Road. According to the coroner, Mann was the victim of strangulation and blunt force trauma.

Mann had worked as a general surgeon at Southern Palmetto Hospital since March, according to the hospital’s CEO. He lived in Barnwell County during the week, but traveled home to Kathleen, Ga., on weekends.

According to the hospital’s Web site, he was a graduate of the University of Florida College of Medicine. As part of his residency, Mann did pediatric surgery at Queen Mary’s Hospital for Sick Children, Carshalton, England.

But how d-u-m-b do you have to be to post on FB "I killed a man"!!??!?!
Answer: Pretty darned dumb.
=========================================
Now all the local gay folks can have their turn whining that this is not really a gay crime, just a prostitution crime, could have happened to any local heterosexual, etc. etc. blah blah blah we're just like you folks. Have at it, gay community.

I'm not part of the gay

I'm not part of the gay community, Dixieman, but yes, it could've happened- and HAS happened- in the heterosexual community. This is about a terrible, tragic murder, and yes, it happens all over. This is just a depraved, terrible, senseless tragedy, and sadly, will happen again and again. People just don't learn.

Who said homosexual?
Unpublished

No where does it state that he knew Riggs was male. The doctor only had his address and phone number. And what would it matter anyway? The doctor's major crime was living a secret life. The murderer's major crime was planned murder. I don't see how anyone's sexuality factors in that.

Riggs could have posed as a

Riggs could have posed as a woman online...people do it all the time. There's nothing to indicate that they actually spoke, so there's still some supposition. Look at Manti Teo - he thought he was in an online relationship with a woman, and we know how that ended.

Well, I really don't think

Well, I really don't think the point or the conversation needs to highlight homosexuality which I am opposed to. Its a tragic situation and to have an educated man fall for this and be killed shows a lot of intense issues. Praying for his family. Keep this murderer off the streets.

It Is True

It is true that there is nothing hidden, that will not be revealed, nor covered that will not be uncovered. It's in the Bible, and I believe it.

So sad that mankind can compute the distance between the earth earth and the sun. there is no problem with determining the space between the moon and the stars, and yet, self-control in many areas has yet to be discovered.

My condolences to the family, and may justice be served in every area of this situation to the full extent of the law.

@Dixieman

What on earth kind of person do you have to be to twist this into an attack on gay people? Filled to the brim with hate...

Edit: Should have included fishman960 as well. The next decade and beyond are going to be pretty disappointing for people like y'all (just as the 60s and beyond were disappointing for racists).

there's nothing in this article that indicates Dr. Mann was homosexual; and may have been corresponding with a man pretending to be a woman. But gay-bashing is soooo much more fun.

either way he was looking for opportunity to sin

Bible says wages of sin is death. We are all sin but to seek it out raises it to another level and sowing and reaping always works so why risk the "sin life". The less you sin the better the chance to avoid much of the sadness in this earthly life. God gave us a choice in an open book test and then told us the correct answer. What more would anyone ask? Eternal joy and peace or eternal misery; that's pretty easy unless your pride causes you to be a fool.

You will not live long enough to find someone that agrees with homosexuality except one of it's mutated gay kind.

Only indication was that he was interested in sex outside of his marriage, at this point in the release of the details. He was in his 60's

You Don't Get By With It

No doubt the 22 year old Riggs made himself out to be someone

even younger than 22 .

An offer the Dr. simply could not refuse .

At the very least you have a 60 yr old and a 22 yr old .

The nature of the depravity being a requirement for younger &

younger flesh in order to satisfy your own flesh .

At worst , and even more likely , you have 60 yr old thinking he is

getting a high school student or younger .

Even if you don't believe in

Even if you don't believe in God, if he would have taken the Bible as nothing more than advice, this wouldn't have happened!! This situation is truly, deeply sad!!

But, as I've stated before; if people lived by Bible scripture, it would keep them out of SOOO much controversy, trials and tribulations!! So when you don't listen, don't blame HIM!!! Mankinds FREE WILL is sometimes a Bi#*h!!

No one can excuse this crime.

No one can excuse this crime. But a week ago I was poised for the avalanche of usual retorts about the low life thug; when will they stop. And some may still characterize Riggs as such and won't get much complaints from me but the bigger lesson is that people don't "ask for it"....to be victimized, but people do make very bad choices that have have life or death consequences.

I wish I could forget how people blamed a certain kid for his own death. Um...deep breath...I am really trying to let it go.
