Ex-UGA worker faces child sex charges

ATHENS, Ga. -- Authorities on Tuesday charged a former University of Georgia employee with numerous counts of exploitation of a child.

Jeffrey Wall Delk, 51, was charged with 43 counts of the crime after authorities conducted a search of his home on Wendy Lane in which they seized computers and cell phones, according to Athens-Clarke police.

Delk recently held the post of assistant director for gift and estate planning in UGA’s Development & Alumni Relations division. He resigned the position amid the investigation that concluded with his arrest, officials said.

The investigation was launched after Athens-Clarke police were provided with information from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The UGA police department was asked on Friday to assist in the investigation, which culminated with evidence uncovered on the computers and phones that were seized during a search of Delk’s home Tuesday morning, police said.
