Police were searching Wednesday for a man suspected of robbing the Suntrust Bank on Peach Orchard Road.

A Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy and two others were also injured in a wreck that happened when the officer was responding to the call about 2:30 p.m.

According to a news release, the robbery suspect is a black man with medium brown complexion, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 200 pounds. He wore a black mask and blue jeans with distinctive orange X’s on both back pockets.

Deputy Tommy King was traveling in the left eastbound lane of Lumpkin Road and approaching the intersection with Shelby Drive when a 19-year-old driver pulled into King’s path from Shelby Drive, according to the release.

King’s vehicle struck the side of the 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage. King, the 19-year-old driver and her 20-year-old passenger were taken to Georgia Regents University Medical Center.

King was treated and left the hospital later Wednesday. The names of the others involved in the wreck were not released.

Another one living the dream.

Another one living the dream. Must not have gotten a free turkey.

They need either start staking out that Suntrust or Suntrust needs to hire an armed guard for that bank. It's pretty much become the Section 8 ATM for robberies. I would be reluctant to do business there.

Sorry the deputy and the others were injured in the wreck. Hope everyone is okay.

If people would..

If people would get off their phones, follow the rules of the road when you hear sirens oh and turn down the radio, accidents would happen like this.. Girl was probably not paying attention or probably didn't even know what to do.. Saw a girl the other day just pull in front of an ambulance with it's sirens and horn blazing.. She just putzed right along like there was nothing going on..

Needs to be taught

To point a gun in the face of an innoccent person as in this situation (or any) is a crime of the worst offense. No punishment is too harsh for such foolishness. It's not desperation, maybe sorry coward is the reason. Long hard labor comes to mind.

no where's in this report is there a mention of a gun. Not saying there wasn't but a lot of bank robberies are done with a note and a hand in a pocket. But I do agree with you on Hard Labor or a customer with a CWL.

When the potential pain

When the potential pain outweighs the gain, they will stop. Our problem is that now days a stint in jail doesn't bother most of them. Dollars to doughnuts this criminal already has a record.

Banks and other potential marks should have an elevated cubicle with one way glass for an armed officer to survey the area. Would be robbers would never know if someone is in them or not, but if they roll the dice and they are, a bullet in the head would be fine with me.
