The body of Dr. Charles Mann III was found Saturday in Spirit Creek at Willis Foreman Road, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten confirmed that a Barnwell, S.C., surgeon found dead in Spirit Creek died as a result of manual strangulation and blunt-force injuries.

Dr. Charles Mann III, 60, who worked in Barnwell during the week and returned home to Kathleen, Ga., on the weekends, was last seen in Barnwell on Thursday. Police said his blue 2006 Honda Civic was found in a wooded area on Old Louisville Road on Friday and his body was later recovered at Spirit Creek at Willis Foreman Road.

Tuten said the autopsy was not able to determine an approximate time of death.

“The water would skew all that,” he said.

Glenn Vincent Riggs II, a 22-year-old who had warrants for several misdemeanor crimes, was charged with murder and robbery by force in the case. Police believe Mann died at Riggs’ residence in the 2600 block of Dublin Drive.

Horrible way to die

Not that there's a good way, but still...
Wish some reporter would dig in and either CONFIRM or DENY the rumors going around about why he was there.

Dixieman, If this guy was

Dixieman,
If this guy was living a double life (and I'm not saying that he was), I don't think the chronicle will report it. And I'm pretty sure that the sheriffs office won't make any statements to that effect. The story will just die a natural death. I could be wrong about all this, I'll just have to wait and see how all this plays out.

It will probably come out in

It will probably come out in the murder trial. If he claims "gay panic" or some such as a defense, then you will know. If he was doing sex or drugs for money and the doc would not pay agreed on price, then you will know. If he pleads guilty or works out a deal, you may never know.

Unanswered Questions

It has apparently been confirmed by Media other than the Chronicle he lived another life that appeared to be secret. It has been told he had a history of internet relations, many times money is exchanged before actually meeting your online friend. He did not have to be gay, Riggs could have posed as a woman that was down and out, had him believing he was meeting someone else via pictures posted. This has happened before but not always with this tragic ending.

The media has presented him as a Solid Citizen for the most part, you have to wonder why an established surgeon would leave his home and family and move to another state if all was well in his life. Maybe one day the truth will be told and probably at a trial and Herenow2say if he pleads out the truth probably will never be revealed.

The Ready Made Defense

The ready made defense in this one , ( if indeed the Dr appeared at

this locale via his own internet dealings ) , will be homosexual auto

erotic stimulation gone awry .

Male homosexuals are well known for engaging in this practice of reducing

the blood flow to the brain in order the heighten the sex pleasure .

The defense will claim they were both engaged in this , he passed out ,

fell and hit his head several times .

Case closed .

The unwarranted persecution of the typical homosexual lifestyle will be

played to the hilt by the defense , if it turns out that a hookup was

made via the internet .

Oh sorry Austin, I guess I

Oh sorry Austin, I guess I couldn't listen in yesterday because I was working, at a modern office...on a computer...no transistor radios in my possession.

Austin's program is a lot of hot air and speculation and very

little news. He just loves to be on the grandstand and use his 'sources' to make everyone think he knows everything. I will get my 'news' from other sources!

Murder is murder

and it sickens me when I read what people guess and speculate. Give the deceased doctor respect and his family sympathy. The world has turned into a mass of cruel people that don't care what they say or write.
