A Grovetown juvenile charged with sex with underage girls turned 17 on Monday and was transferred from a juvenile facility to the Columbia County Detention Center.

Leo Vassar Tanguay had been arrested on June 21 and was held in the Regional Youth Detention Center after a judge refused to grant Tanguay a bond.

Tanguay was indicted on July 31 on four counts of child molestation, three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, and one count each of aggravated child molestation and aggravated sodomy.

He is accused of having sexual relations with a girl under the age of 16 on two separate occasions in June and with a girl, 14 or 15 at the time, on two separate occasions between September 2012 and July 1, 2013, according to the indictment.

Tanguay is also accused of having three lewd photos of one of the girls, according to the indictment.

Tanguay’s attorney, Danny Durham, filed a motion to transfer the case to Columbia County Juvenile Court, but no ruling has been made on the motion, according to court records.

Not sure of the one's age,
Unpublished

Not sure of the one's age, but the other was within 2 years of his age at the time. Not that it was right, but this is not right.

He can kiss his life away if convicted.

Even after he gets out of jail in 10-20 years

What is so sad is how

What is so sad is how uneducated today's youth are about the law. I am sure this was consensual sex since there are no charges of rape. The loop hole that Romeo didn't know about obviously was that at 16 he could be charged with child molestation due to the ages of the girls. I work with this age group and I do know that they are having sex younger than ever because in today's society it is the norm. Sex to these kids today is all about acceptance and fitting in. It's just plain sad.

Don't know all the details

Don't know all the details but sucks to be sent up for sleeping with someone a year or two younger than yourself. Watch out kids, it's only gonna get worse I promise.

I agree Davie P.

Right now, not too much concern for this situation (consensual sex among teens) resulting in male teen arrest. Just wait until it flips, and they start locking up the girls. That should get some real attention.

Dittos WB. Good to have you

Dittos WB. The biggest shame is that this kid will wear the yoke of "sex offender" forever; classified in with predators, pedophiles, and rapists.

Good to have you back posting again.

Why aren't juveniles arrested

who have sex regardless of it being consensual? Is it against the law for juveniles to have sex or is it just against the law to have sex with a juvenile? If only we were so diligent about enforcing all laws. I'm always confused on this.

??

Why is a 17 year old being transferred to an adult jail? I thought the legal definition of an adult is 18. This guy can't even vote. I do not know this person's character but I am shocked that a 16 year old can be accused of child molestation when having sex with a 15 year old. His life is ruined.

Why him why now?

I don't know any particulars other than what has been made public but one has to wonder why this has been elevated to these felony charges. A few years ago another young man in Georgia had a similar happening but at that time the author of this particular law stated that it was never intended to be used in the way that it was used then, and I would say now. What happened isn't a good thing in any way - young people must be taught and must exhibit control over their bodies for many reasons, not the least of which is demonstrated in this case. A similar case happened a few years ago when the parents of one girl involved insisted that the young men be charged - I have no idea what happened with that case. But this one has now placed this young man's life in complete disrepair because his picture has been shown, his name has been given and at least a few details of what happened has been made public. Meanwhile the girls, who apparently "enjoyed" those same pleasures, remain anonymous. Something is wrong with this picture and the way that the prosecutor has decided to proceed. This young man has already been convicted in the minds of the public - his "innocent until proven guilty" right has been abridged.

Get to the root of the problem...

When are we as a society going to take some responsibility for the message we are sending our youth regarding "SEX" via the internet, TV, movies, billboards, magazines, government sponsored programs and parental modeling?

Just maybe, we are locking up the wrong people!!
