Police say an Augusta man was stabbed in the leg during a robbery Saturday morning.

About 1:15 a.m., Jerry Strickland said he was escorting a woman home from a downtown bar when he was attacked by a man near the corner of Tenth Street and Walton Way, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

Strickland said his jacket and wallet, which contained $41, were stolen during the altercation. Deputies found Strickland with cuts on his face and a stab wound to his left leg.

Strickland was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. He was unable to provide a description of the suspect.

Shame on the AC!

Why does the AC print these type of articles? There's obviously more to the story but their sticking to if it bleeds then it leads.

I read at the bottom of the article were the person couldn't even provide the description of the suspect and please stop trying to sensationalize every single crime in/around downtown.

None of the downtown bars(Broad street) are located anywhere close to the corner of Walton Way and 10th..

The article didn't say

the crime was committed at the downtown bar....he was escorting the woman away from the bar and was attacked at Walton and 10th......this is not in the "CDB" thankfully.....this is closer to where all the hip, med student types you say will be flocking to live near the medical college...God help them.....

Sad!

I read the article and completely understood what it said....

The groups of people partying downtown around 1:15 am aren't walking 'home' after drinking at the different bars on Broad street to either Laney Walker or Bethlehem(closer two neighborhoods to Walton Way and 10th).

Neither one of those neighborhoods are right around the corner from Broad street in terms of the walking distance...

Crime... it's just criminal

It's a good thing Strickland didn't make it to "North Richmond" (sarcasm)... then we would have to get the greatest movie theater ever built pitch.

Well, I suppose if it

Well, I suppose if it happened to YOU, countyman, the paper shouldn't "sensationalize" it either? Didn't you notice the article said he was walking the woman HOME?

Or maybe you wouldn't want to

Or maybe you wouldn't want to report it because it would make the statistics look bad for your plans?

A Dude Robs You Of Your Wallet...

...steals your jacket, cuts your face, and stabs you in the leg.

After all that, the victim "was unable to provide a description of the suspect."

Seems a little odd. No? I mean how can you not notice who's doing all that stuff to you? I guess the lady didn't see anything either?

"I guess the lady didn't see

"I guess the lady didn't see anything either"

They both probably saw who did it and know who they are. I smell a revenge shooting coming in the next few days.

I think the place that is

I think the place that is being mentioned is the place where the black strip club used to be. The building used to be blue then purple. Don't remember the color now. Just down from the old Speed car wash but on the other side of the street. Too far from Broad Street.

Strip Club

Strip Club or any other type of club is history at that spot. The Augusta Judicial Center/John H Ruffin Court House is the only building there, now.

Have my doubts about this one.....

But, while many are not out at 1am to 3am in morning, the odds of something bad happening and being reported do dramatically increase.

Also turning a blind eye to it is not the answer, nor is putting a Big Brother camera every post and adding $2 to $4 million in new taxes to install and operate a Downtown only system.

However,
Maybe it is time to go old school and "stage" a few scenes using
undercover RCSO Deputies and get the Criminals to wondering if its a VIC or a Deputy they are about to rob.

It is a cost already covered under the present budget, and lets the problem elements know much quicker, especially if one of them gets shot.

Bleeds & it leads

ctyman you could always patrol the streets at night & stop some of these incidents.....wear a gun though.....don't want another bleeds/leads story.

For some, it is only portions

For some, it is only portions of Broad and Reynolds. What a small area of Georgia's second largest SMSA. Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area. Note the "area" part. Note the "area" part.

We have the CBD, downtown and

We have the CBD, downtown and uptown. The CBD is part of downtown. Of course we also have the metro area which includes the surrounding counties. We also have the CSRA which is a little different than the metro area even though that's a little hard to understand. The only official areas would be city limits and the official metropolitan statistical area..... I'm not about to get into North Richmond County.

Wasn't The Uptowner on the 800 block of Reynolds? I wonder if countyman remembers? Or maybe where The Thunderbird Inn was?
