Hamlet Perdomo, 26, has pleaded not guilty in Richmond County Superior Court to every charge in a 15-count indictment.
Sheriff investigators contend the crime spree began in the early morning hours of Sept. 11, 2010, when 56-year-old Carl Bush Sr. was shot to death in a parking lot at Reynolds and Fifth streets. According to prior court testimony, Bush had handed over his wallet at an assailant’s demand before he was shot.
A few days later, on Sept. 14, 2010, a couple was accosted in south Augusta by three men who were in a vehicle.
The three men were also identified as the same men who accosted a second couple hours later on Fenwick Street. The woman was kidnapped and sexually assaulted by two of the men, whom she identified as Perdomo and his brother Hector Torres. The third defendant, Michael Rewis, was identified as the driver.
Rewis, 22, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He will stand trial separately from Perdomo. Torres was tried and convicted of all charges in January.
