Detrick Favors, 40, was found in Morgan County after deputies and agents from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives captured one of the kidnapping suspects at a planned ransom-drop location, according to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. During his ordeal, Favors sustained injuries that authorities characterized as “mild.”

That suspect was identified as Justin D. Jackson, of Augusta, who was charged with kidnapping with bodily injuries, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and first-degree burglary. Federal charges are being considered by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Favors was kidnapped sometime Wednesday night from his home on Brown Road near the Green County line off Salem Road in Farmington, according to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.

Local authorities learned of the abduction about 10 a.m. Thursday when someone contacted the sheriff’s office to report that Favors was being held for a “significant ransom demand.”

When authorities went to Favors’ home, they saw that the front door had been shot through and smashed open, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators intercepted communication from the kidnappers and learned that they would be at Butler’s Crossing shopping center in Watkinsville. The investigators placed the spot under surveillance and arrested Jackson when he arrived at Domino’s Pizza to pick up the ransom, according to the sheriff’s office.

He was armed with a .32-caliber pistol.

After Jackson’s arrest, authorities said, they developed information that led to several locations being searched for Favors. The victim was found by a civilian not connected with the investigation, however, about 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Rutledge, a city in Morgan County.

Deputies from that county picked up Favors and turned him over to Oconee County sheriff’s personnel.

Additional details are being withheld by authorities as the investigation continues.
