A Hephzibah teen has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after he shot his “very close friend” Monday while playing with a gun he believed to be unloaded, police said.

Dominique Sullivan, 19, was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and pointing a firearm at another, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office news release Tuesday.

Police said Delarrion Smith went to Andorra Drive to give Sullivan, of Morgan Road in Hephzibah, a ride. Sullivan began horse-playing with Smith in the vehicle, and Smith pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Sullivan in a “playful manner,” police said.

Sullivan took the gun, removed the magazine, pointed the gun back at Smith and pulled the trigger. Police said Sullivan believed the gun was unloaded.

Authorities were called about 6:40 p.m. Monday and found Smith, 18, of Allendale Court in Hephzibah, with a gunshot wound to the chest. Smith was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he died.

Stupid gun. I should have

Stupid gun. It should have unloaded itself before it allowed itself to be taken by under aged persons.

Condolences to both familys

I really feel bad for the victims family.

Let us be real also.
Here we have and 18 and a 19 year with a PISTOL.
Just having it was AGAINST FEDERAL AND GA LAWs.

Why does a 19 have a pistol?
How does a 19 come to get a pistol?
What did the pair plan to do with the pistol?
WHO is (was) the legal Owner of the pistol?

Uhhhh

Pointing a loaded handgun at another person in a "playful manner"? Removing the magazine doesn't get it. Obviously he didn't know much about pistols.

They are trying to teach sex education (age appropriate) in public schools. Maybe they need to teach gun use and safety as well.

why not,

the public expects the school system to teach kids everything else. Manners, discipline, sex ed, responsibility and now gun safety. Wonder why public education isn't working, look at what we have to work with. Prayers to both families!

Just Stupid

At first I was going to just say stupidity, and it is some of that, by even THINKING about pointing a gun at someone you are not willing to maim or kill. But, it is more than that. As 'nocnoc' said above, what are teenagers even having access to a gun. But it also shows the lack of knowledge and training that these idiots have, when it comes to semiautomatic firearms. Pulling the clip does NOT make the gun inert. AND, it shows that he had the gun "HOT" because there was a round chambered. Find out where this gun came from. Find out HOW this teenager gained access to a gun in the first place, and throw those people in jail. Thoughts and prayers to the victim's family. A parent should never have to bury their child, particularly when it happened because someone had a gun that they had no legal right to possess.

Involuntary?

How is it involuntary if he pointed a gun at someone and pulled the trigger? That's about as deliberate as it gets. It's ashamed these guys weren't taught gun safety, personal responsibility and how to respect others.

I'm Not So Sure

@KSL - I don't think the school kids are taking real good notes in Sex Education, based upon the growing number of illegitimate kids that "We the People" are having to support. I'm not sure they would do any better in Gun Safety Education.
