COLUMBUS, Ga. — Muscogee County sheriff’s officials have charged a county jail inmate with murder in the death of his 57-year-old cellmate.

Sheriff John Darr says Jeffrey McKinney has been charged in the death of Issac Kindred, who was found dead at the jail Saturday. County Coroner Buddy Bryan has said Issac suffered severe lacerations to his face and head.

Darr says McKinney is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in municipal court on Wednesday. The circumstances that led to Issac’s death are unclear.

The Ledger-Enquirer of Columbus reports that Kindred is the third county inmate to die in just over two weeks.

The newspaper reports 21-year-old Maurice Grier died of an aneurysm Oct. 29 and 46-year-old Lori Carroll died Oct. 24. Her cause of death is unclear.
