10 sheriff's employees honored for service

Ten Richmond County sheriff’s employees were honored for two separate incidents in October at a command staff meeting on Oct. 29.

Investigators Matthew Perkins, Shedree Woods, Shannon Ryals and Cecil Ridley arrested a man for sex trafficking and rescued two females from sexual servitude after responding to a complaint of drug activity, loitering and prostitution at the Boy Scout Road Motel 6 on Oct. 2. Investigators discovered a man handling a female at the rear of a vehicle while loading sex paraphernalia into the car’s trunk.

During an investigation, police learned the man was holding two females in sexual servitude against their will in two rooms at the motel. He forced them into prostitution and kept control of money, food, clothing and all contact with the outside world.

With help from the GBI and FBI, police arrested the suspect and freed the two females, one of whom has entered witness protection.

Sgt. Danny Whitehead, Cpl. Tommy King, and Deputies Cory Carlyle, Jonathan Counts, Tiffany Justice and Kyle Michau were honored for their actions after the armed robbery of the Central Avenue Family Dollar on Oct. 10.

Several of the officers were involved in a pursuit of the suspects vehicle after noticing a vehicle matching the description on Milledge Road. It ended on the 2800 block of Washington Road, where officers began a foot pursuit and took two of the suspects into custody.

All officers honored at the meeting were awarded a certificate of appreciation, letter and gift card.
