North Augusta woman charged with manslaughter in fatal shooting

Herndon

A North Augusta woman has been charged with manslaughter in the fatal shooting of her boyfriend at their residence Wednesday.

Robin Renee Herndon, 40, was charged Thursday and is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center.

Aiken County sheriff’s Sgt. Jason Feemster said Herndon and Christopher Rowley, 31, began arguing at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Jefferson Davis Highway and then continued the argument at their home, 721 Sudlow Lake Road in North Augusta.

A neighbor told a 911 dispatcher she was in her yard when she heard the couple arguing on their front porch. Soon after she heard a gunshot and Herndon screaming.

Police arrived about 2:15 p.m. to find Herndon attempting to give CPR to Rowley, who had a gunshot wound to the neck.

Rowley, 31, was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he died at 3:07 p.m.

Feemster said ballistics tests will determine if Herndon, an employee at South Carolina Probation, Pardon and Paroles, used her service weapon.

Police said the couple had been in a relationship for about nine months and had been living together since March.
