An Augusta man was arrested Tuesday on a charge of cruelty to children after a 1-year-old was found with substantial swelling and bruising earlier this month.

Antonio Maurice Dukes, 22, of Beman Street, was charged with felony cruelty to children in the first degree, according to jail records.

About 1 a.m. on Oct. 18, the mother of the child, India Turner, 23, of Augusta, told police she had left her daughter at her home in the 1000 block of River Ridge Road with Dukes and her 22-year-old brother. Turner’s brother told police that he briefly left the house, and when he returned, he found Dukes in the same room as the child, the report said. Dukes told Turner’s brother that he found the girl with blood on her face.

Child abusers should be dealt with as harshly as possible. There's no excuse for these wanta be tough guys to beat on children. Send them to the join and pray for some prison justice.

If Found Guilty

Kill him. What was Mom doing out @ 1 AM with a one year-old? And if she left the child with her brother, then why the heck did he leave the house? I do not understand this behavior.
