Bellinger Moody, the CEO of Medac Inc., said the business building on Scott Nixon Memorial Drive was locked down just after noon after an employee said her husband threatened to shoot her and the other 250 employees.
“We take that kind of threat very seriously and locked down all our buildings,” Moody said, adding that the company operates two other campuses in Augusta.
Richmond County sheriff’s Sgt. Shane McDaniel said the woman was in the parking lot talking to her husband by phone.
“It was a verbal altercation between husband and wife over the phone,” McDaniel said.
He said he couldn’t confirm that the man made the threat.
“Nobody showed up over there with a weapon,” McDaniel said.
Moody said the employee went inside and reported the threat to the Human Resources director. Company officials locked down the building and called authorities.
The employee “was concerned for her children and left,” Moody said.
Employees were locked inside the building as sheriff’s deputies took statements from witnesses.
After the threat was reported, deputies found the man at the couple’s south Augusta home, McDaniel said. The woman and her children had been accounted for and were fine. The man was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.
McDaniel said he doesn’t expect any charges to be filed in connection with the incident.
