An armed robbery was thwarted Tuesday afternoon when a bystander took action, separating the victim from the would-be robber.

About 2:30 p.m., Vernon Fields, 24, was sitting on his motorbike in a field near Cooney Circle when an unknown man approached him and demanded that he hand over the bike, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

When Fields refused, the suspect pulled a knife and cut Fields on the neck, forehead and upper lip.

Donnell Graham, who had been talking to Fields before the attack, told deputies that he intervened and pulled the suspect off Fields before the man ran away.

Fields was taken to University Hospital for treatment, the report said.

A huge applause to a brave man

If there were more courageous gentlemen like him we could put a big dent into crime. God bless you, and I hope the young man that was attacked will heal quickly!

I was honestly hoping this

I was honestly hoping this would be a story about a permit holder putting down someone with a few well placed rounds to the center of mass.

Happy ending, but still disappointed.
