Holding signs that said, “Help Me burry My Mom!! Please Donate!!,” Kendra Lachell Morris and Zachary Lacasey Sims were arrested Wednesday in Aiken on charges of soliciting without a permit and obtaining goods by false pretense. The signs were adorned with pink ribbons.

A third person involved has not been identified and is still being sought by police.

The three suspects stood on Fabian Drive and used plastic Halloween pumpkins to collect donations from motorists, Aiken police said. There were hundreds of dollars in the pumpkins.

During questioning, Morris, 21, and Sims, 20, both of Augusta, gave police different names and funeral homes for the deceased “mom” during interviews.

Investigators contacted the funeral homes and found no one there by those names. One suspect later admitted it was a scheme to help them pay their bills, according to police.

Sims and Morris were booked into the Aiken County Detention Center.

Authorities said the city of Aiken has an ordinance against solicitation without a license. The license ensures the solicitors are representing an organization or have a legitimate cause for obtaining money.

I had a guy hit me up for gas to make it to a job interview

So I told him I would fill his tank for him if he would pull his car up and show me his gas gauge. Of course he said the gauge indicator "was broken", so I said I would give him what it would hold.

He actually let me put 4 gallons of gas in his tank and then feigned utter surprise. I told him he was bringing down curses upon his head by his lying and exploiting the generosity of kind people and he actually had enough of a conscience to apologize.

I gave two grocery bags of food to an old man begging with an "I'm hungry" sign at the corner of Milledgeville and 15th. He grabbed the bags and without even looking back up at me, started digging through the bags as he turned and walked off. I must have owed him.

The preacher told me one time that when people approached him

for money at the church for food that he never gave them money. Instead he said if you want to walk over to McDonald's I will pay for your lunch. LOL! He would go over in a few minutes and his 'needy' person was never there! Good lesson!

I saw this young lady yesterday and people were stopping giving her money and hugging her neck. This is the very reason I do not give unless I know where the $ is going. Just more evidence of what the Great Society, liberals, democrats and black leaders have created.

Victims of the government shutdown

I am sure. Blame the Republicans for their sad plight, forced to lie about Mama's death just because of Obama's racist opponents!
Also, I blame George W. Bush.

so what? IRS approved "legitimate" charities are constantly begging for donations and a disproportionate amount of contributions go to support the bloated salaries of the administrators...it's up to the donor to throw money at them or not. Don't be duped.

There was a bigger white guy

There was a bigger white guy who would hold up a gas can at a home in Olde Town. He would say his boss didn't pay him for the job (working on the house) until later that afternoon, but he needed gas to get to his boss.

I saw this same guy at the same house holding the same gas can the very next day.

Just give. Don't worry/ask...

Proverbs 21:26
…the righteous gives and does not hold back.

Deuteronomy 15:10
Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.

Proverbs 28:27
He who gives to the poor will never want, but he who shuts his eyes will have many curses.

@Fiat: Matthew 6:3-4
But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

Watch out for this one...

Older woman claiming to have locked herself out of her car. She used to work for Dr. So & So, her daughter is pregnant and with her, the locksmith is charging $75 to unlock the car, and she's about $14 short. She wants you to call her policeman husband to get him to come with the money, but of course he doesn't answer the phone, so now it's time to ask you for the money. Ran into this Tuesday around University Hospital, so I figure it's a good place to catch people distracted by doctor appointments. She wasted her time with me, but it was fascinating how many tricks she tried to pull.

international, I done see anywhere where he says give to thieves and deadbeats. In a way I feel sorry for folks like these two. They are the product of 40+ years of the Great Society, the politics of the liberals, democrats and black leaders. They have dumbed down the kids in gov't schools, encouraged families to break and encouraged people to sit on their butts and vote for the democrats.

Don't think I need you to instruct me about how to be generous.

You probably should know that without being told just from reading what I was doing for these beggars, but I won't simply assume that. There's something a little disingenuous about your little Bible snark. It doesn't help someone in the least when you just enable them to do something that exploits the generosity of others and damages their own souls in the process. How kind is that?

Since you don't know who I am, it's still only my Father who knows what I did. And I don't do it so that He will reward me. I do it because He loves them so much that I can't bare not to try and show that to them.

THIEVES

I saw these thieves on Fabian drive and am glad they were arrested. For a moment I thought about stopping because I felt sympathy. It's disgusting behavior on their part and shows a complete lack of decency. To prey on peoples generosity is nothing but theft pure and simple.

Proverbs

It was instructive for internationally unknown to post a quote from Proverbs:

Proverbs 28:27
He who gives to the poor will never want, but he who shuts his eyes will have many curses.

I have one question — what happens to him who gives to the scammer?

So Internationally unknown,

So Internationally unknown, Proverbs also says

Proverbs 3:27 "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it."

I think the emphases in this verse is on the "to whom it is due".

Also Ephesians 4:28 says "Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. "

Someone begging under false pretenses is the same ast stealing. It's better to teach a man to provide for himself so that he can in turn help the poor and needy.

Ephesians 5:11 "Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them"

Stewards are to be trustworthy and responsible. He must be of sound doctrine and rebuke those who contradict it.

Matthew 25:31-46

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

international, most of us have only so much to give and it is our responsibly to give to the deserving. If I hand out to every dead beat that comes along I will not be able help the deserving. There so many like these young people. It is sad but they the product of the Great Society, liberal and democrat policies.

Please

They were deceiving people. That's wrong, remember?

They don't get a pass for it, anymore than anyone else does ultimately.

And throwing Scripture at us to try to shame us into whatever it is you think we should be doing is quite inappropriate. The first thing it elicits from me is the opinion that you are all about feel-good religion and not about treating people with the kind of respect that requires them to step up and acknowledge reality.
