A 74-year-old man whose criminal history dates back nearly five decades pleaded guilty Tuesday in Richmond County Superior Court to theft and burglary charges.

For the $36,700 in golf cart parts and metal he stole and sold as scrap, William C. Dawkins was sentenced to serve eight years in prison, followed by 10 years on probation.

In June and July 2012, a homeless Dawkins stole more than 100 golf cart motors and metal from Time Transport on Sand Bar Ferry Road.

Well now he's not homeless anymore.

It would have been cheaper just to let him keep stealing.

He probably got what he wanted.

Tragic

What a tragedy. What happened in this man's life that this is what's become of it? I feel badly for him that this is the only way he's able to ensure a roof over his head.

Tragic? With a 50 year criminal history I don't see anything but a lot of wrong decisions along the way.
