Augusta man denied bond on rape, child molestation charges

An Augusta man facing charges of rape and child molestation passed out Friday in Richmond County Superior Court after he was denied bond.

Warren P. Colbert, 51, was arrested Sept. 29 after a woman was told by her son that Colbert had been touching her 9-year-old daughter, Assistant District Attorney Laura Stewart said Friday.

An investigation by sheriff’s detectives found that the girl told a friend that Colbert had molested her for two years and that it had advanced from touching to rape, Stewart said.

One of Colbert’s daughters told a sheriff’s investigator that her father had molested her and her sister while he was in the military, Stewart said. He was convicted in 1999, she said.

The daughter, who lives in Germany, told the investigator she is willing to come to Augusta to testify, Stewart said.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons Web site, a Warren P. Colbert, 51, was released from prison in January 2006.

Colbert is not on the Georgia sex offender registry or the national registry.
