A suspect in a 2012 Augusta homicide was indicted on a murder charge this week.
The Richmond County grand jury indictment issued Tuesday against Carl G. Logan, 31, accuses him of beating and stabbing to death 43-year-old Anthony G. Olivet on March 19, 2012. Olivet’s body was found in his Fleming Drive apartment in south Augusta the next day.
Six days after Olivet was killed, Logan stabbed a woman in Houston, Texas. He was convicted of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury in that case and an Aug. 29, 2012 assault, according to court records in Houston. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Richmond County sheriff’s investigators placed a hold on Logan to bring him back to Augusta to face the murder charge in Olivet’s death. District Attorney Ashley Wright said they will now have him extradited.
Police in Danville, Va., also filed a hold on Logan with Texas authorities.
He was convicted of assault in a stabbing in Virginia in 2003.
