Elderly man facing charges of child molestation denied bond

Bond was denied Friday for a 76-year-old man accused of child molestation.

Herman Miskelly faces charges in Columbia and Richmond counties of illegal contact with two 6-year-old girls recently and in 2007, said Assistant District Attorney John Markwalter.

Since his initial arrest in Columbia County, other children have come forward, Markwalter said.

Defense attorney William Marcum told the judge that Miskelly says he is innocent and has never even been alone with the children who made the accusations. Marcum asked the judge to take into consideration Miskelly’s age and serious medical conditions.

Richmond County Superior Court Judge Daniel J. Craig denied bond for Miskelly.
