Augusta man pleads guilty to trafficking in heroin


An Augusta man caught with more than twice the amount of heroin to qualify for a drug trafficking charge pleaded guilty Friday.

George J. Wilson, 66, pleaded in Richmond County Superior Court to that charge and two weapon violations. Judge Daniel J. Craig accepted a plea negotiation to limit Wilson’s prison term to the minimum of five years. The judge also sentenced Wilson to an additional five years on probation and imposed the mandatory minimum $50,000 fine.

Wilson had criminal convictions dating back to 1970.
