Donald James Blakely, 51, of Rolland Road in Harlem, died as a result of a head injury during a Monday scuffle with Evans Bernard Walton.

Walton, 38, of Applecross Drive, is charged with murder and aggravated battery. He’s being held in the Columbia County Detention Center without bond, according to jail records.

Just after 3 p.m., deputies responded to Applecross Apartments, where they found Blakely unconscious on the ground, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

A witness identified Walton as a suspect.

Though Walton left the scene before police arrived, he surrendered to authorities and admitted to striking Blakely, according to the report. Walton said he called Blakely a drunk, so Blakely spit in his face.

Walton said he slapped Blakely, who then fell backwards and hit the back of his head on the sidewalk, according to the report.

Blakely was taken to the Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he died late Tuesday, according to sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

An autopsy was scheduled at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Atlanta.

I am not sure that involves a murder charge. He insulted the man by spitting in his face and he slapped him for that. Seems like a logical response for being spit on.

Yes Countyman It happened it Martinez, Columbia County. Unfortunately, we do have crime here but usually it's from riff raff migrating from Richmond County. We can't build a fence to keep them out. It's just like the southern border with Mexico, those who can't make a go of it in their home place look to go where the grass is greener. Rats on a sinking ship do the same thing. Trust me we'd like to build a fence.

Concrete huh?

I wonder why another famous head against concrete incident didn't lead to a death...maybe because the jury got it wrong!

News of the tautological

"Death Leads to Murder Charge".
Well, attempted double-parking wouldn't serve as the basis for a murder charge, would it?
