An Evans man apparently shot himself Tuesday morning while driving on River Watch Parkway.

The 22-year-old man, whose name was withheld by police pending the notification of his next of kin, was driving west on River Watch just after 11 a.m. when his Toyota RAV4 hit a guardrail near Commerce Drive, according to Columbia County Deputy Coroner Harriett Garrison.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene about 11:30 a.m., Garrison said. An autopsy at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Atlanta is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of death.

Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said the man was found with a gunshot wound to his head. His death is a suspected suicide, Morris said.No foul play is suspected.

No one else was injured in the wreck.

Selfish!

Why didn't this guy who wanted to commit suicide just do it without affecting others? He could have really hurt others with his actions.

Sorry he felt he had to end his life.

he did affect others

On the contrary, his suicide DOES affect others, and DOES hurt others. I am also sorry that his life ended this way.

Sweet Son

Part of the intent of suicide is to hurt others. It is often a most profound selfish act.

such a shame

To be so young and to feel so lost with no way out but death. I can only feel sorry for the family he left behind with only pain!!

There are a dozen cleaner and simplier ways

than this messy way.

Given the limited data provided, the circumstances and scenes are strange at best.

A young life is lost

and a family is grieving. May God bless them all and give them the strength to carry on. Debates about this and that are somehow in the wrong place.

It could have been accidental and not suicide

Depending on the the entry wound, etc. this could have been a situation where he was handling the gun while driving and it may have accidentally gone off. Hopefully the family will have answers soon. My heart goes out to them..

please don't call him selfish

Please don't call this young man departed selfish. None of you ever walked in his shoes or knew the pain or distress he was going through at the time. He was so young. If it was your own kid, you'd think differently.

I agree with RHSC, it is not

I agree with RHSC, it is not conclusive yet that it was self inflicted. Just sounds odd that one would do that while driving and endanger others.

Sad story.
