According to school safety and security incident report, on Sept. 13 a 16-year-old was found with an unloaded .25-caliber semi-automatic handgun in his front pocket. Another 16-year-old was found with a gun magazine and a white dagger with a 14-inch sheath and a 8-inch blade.
A parent facilitator had been alerted about the weapons by another student. After she called the school safety officer, Albert Edwards, he performed a frisk in his office on the student who reportedly had the gun.
The other student was escorted by interim Assistant Principal Hal Thomason to another classroom and searched.
The magazine found in that student’s pocket fit the handgun found on the first student, according to the report.
Both boys were fingerprinted and taken into custody at Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center on accusations of possessing weapons on school property.
