2 shot, 4 armed with shotguns sought after home invasion in Harrisburg

Neighbor saw 4 suspects run after break-in

Richmond County sheriff’s deputies were looking for four men armed with shotguns after two Augusta men were shot and wounded Friday afternoon in a home invasion in the 500 block of Wrights Avenue.

Ricky Lee Goree, 45, was shot in his hip and ankle; and James Antonio Overton, 34, was shot in the buttocks. Both men were in stable condition.

The suspects were described only as black men wearing masks, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

They were believed to be driving a Chevrolet Impala, model year 2006 to 2008, with dark tinted windows. The vehicle has been seen often in the Harrisburg area, police said.

Jerry Stubbs, 66, said he was sitting in his living room a little after 2 p.m. when he heard the gunshots next door.

“There had to have been more than 10 shots from those shotguns,” he said.

“I was just watching a movie when I heard them. I got up and looked out the window and saw four guys running away.”

Stubbs said the men left in a gold or brown Chevrolet sedan, heading north on Wrights Avenue.

Stubbs said he thinks his neighbors have lived in the house for only a few weeks.

“That’s the first time anything like that has happened over here,” he said. “It’s usually pretty quiet.”
