A film crew will be tagging along with Richmond County sheriff’s deputies to find Augusta’s “bad boys” during filming for the television show Cops.

Sheriff Richard Roundtree signed an agreement April 4 with Langley Productions Inc. It was obtained through an open records request to the sheriff’s office.

Cops, which follows police during patrols and other activities, premiered in March 1989 and is one of the longest-running TV shows in history. It has been filmed in 140 U.S. cities and in Hong Kong, London and the former Soviet Union, according to its Web site.

After 25 seasons on Fox, Cops moved to Spike TV this month.

The agreement does not specify when filming will begin and end or when the segments will air. Police said they are unable to comment on the filming timeline.

The agreement says all filming activity will be under control of the sheriff’s office’s officer in charge. It states that some officers and residents can refuse to be filmed and that the sheriff’s office has no obligation to compel them to do so. The sheriff’s office also has the right to review and approve all completed segments before broadcast.

What I Did?

I’m going to have to get drunk and do something to get on COPS. I’ll practice my responses. “What I did?”

Remember the baloney sandwich episode?

Sir, what exactly happened? Be honest with me.

That woman came over to my house and ate all my baloney so I couldn't even make a decent sammich when I got off work.

What did you do then?

I'm not gonna lie to you officer, I went over there and when she opened the door, I slapped the you know what out of her.

Sir, put down the sandwich, turn around, and put your hands behind your back.

Ain't Nobody Perfect

Just the other night I saw one where they were in Atlanta. They get this guy and he says he's never been in trouble with the law. When they check on him, he has about 20 arrests and has an active warrant. They point out his record to him and he says, "You know there ain't nobody perfect. You understand what I mean?"

Well be in Augusta?

I heard 2 weeks ago they WERE IN Augusta and would here 6 to 8 weeks filming.

Maybe I just got an advanced warning?

But if the time in the article is correct....
COP's has arrived just in time to see DOWNTOWN
Officially declared a SLUM.

What great timing...

Maybe they came to Augusta

Maybe they came to Augusta BECAUSE they heard it was going to be declared a slum. That'd be ironic.

@nocnoc

It was reported well over a week ago by other outlets that the COPs film crews were already in town and filming. AC is just really late to the party with this story.

Unconfirmed reports

The sheriff's office has been tight-lipped on the production. No one with the office would confirm the reports.

We have made it now

Our 15 minutes of fame are here. I wonder if Commish Fennoy and Woody will do a re-enactmentment of the Civic Center kickdown for an episode of First 48. Or maybe, we can do the opening scene from "Cool Hand Luke' with someone cutting the heads off parking meters next. Can you see the former Augustan resident who wanted a canal downtown starring, maybe with a Henna tattoo on his neck. Or Fred Russell as a Mafia consigliere walking around a "sit down" in the Godfather. Or Marion Williams starring in a remake of Downtown Julie Brown? Or Richard Roundtree as "Shaft". Yep, this may be the beginning of the great turn around for our "Slum" of a town.

The TV filming will be a good excuse for Sheriff Roundtree to sport his white suit again.

The claim of Austin's immature ranting

I disagree.
While he does get under my skin from time to time. He'll LOL's a subject that he wants to bury or ignore. But, if you can get pass him talking constantly about a few daily and repeated subjects.

He has a lot of good and timely info, discreetly provided to him by wide group of deep throat sources, that rival ANY reporters in the CSRA.

Of his 3 hour show about 1 hour of it is informative.
But in that 1 hour, it has more behind the scenes dirt and info than
can be seen or read, in many other local media that has strict legal handcuffs on how to publish info.

This will be great. They can

This will be great. They can film local cops tasing innocent citizens they pull over by GRU or Riverwatch. It will be hilarious watchin' folks get lit up like a Christmas tree. Didn't the police arrest a man for filming them this summer? They could arrest the crew too. Maybe make it realistic with bad cops who were arrested for theft or wife beating too. Reality TV. The spin off wouldn't be Real Housewives, but Real Wife beaters. They can eat at Wife savers and have an intervention.
