Gwinnett County police said they began an investigation after a student complained to a school employee. Police said they have charged Woo Ki Yi and his wife, Hyun Ju Yi, with two counts of child molestation and six counts of furnishing alcohol to minors.
Police Cpl. Jake Smith told reporters Friday that the six students were males and females ages 15 to 18. He said families paid $15,000 to $20,000 each for their children to live with the couple and attend school in Georgia. He said the students reported the couple gave them alcohol and had them play games that required the losers to remove an article of clothing until they were naked.
“The male subject in particular would encourage and coerce these kids into kissing and making out and touching each other as well, presumably for the enjoyment of him and his wife,” Smith said.
The couple could not be reached for comment because they are being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
Smith said the students have been placed in temporary homes at the request of their parents.
A neighbor, Marissa Baker, told WAGA-TV that she did didn’t know there was a problem until she saw the students outside with their suitcases. She said parents had trusted the couple to provide a safe environment. “That was not a safe environment,” she said Friday.
