According to a police statement, Aiken County deputies responded to the 100 block of Jeffcoat Road at 9:48 p.m. after a report of a shooting.
A witness told police the victim, Kerry Eck, 25, and Ricordo Levon Williams, 31, were involved in an altercation when Williams shot Eck in the head. Police said the witness fled to the Jeffcoat Road residence, where she called 911.
Authorities found the victim in an abandoned vehicle near the intersection of South Carolina Highway 39 and Camp Rawls Road.
Eck, who is the mother of three small children, was pronounced dead as a result of severe head trauma at 3:30 a.m., according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
Williams surrendered to the sheriff’s office shortly before 1 p.m. Friday. He has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
