A co-owner of a downtown restaurant is facing drug-trafficking charges after being stopped by a deputy Wednesday.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Greg Meagher said Michael Anthony Brown, 37, was pulled over in front of 1002 Broad St. for not wearing his seat belt.

A Richmond County dog unit confirmed drugs were in Brown’s vehicle, the sheriff’s office reported. Officers discovered less than a gram of methamphetamine, 21 folded pieces of aluminum foil containing heroin and a gun, it was reported.

Brown faces charges of trafficking heroin, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Brown previously told The Augusta Chronicle that he was a co-owner of Eros Bistro, 1002 Broad St., where the arrest took place.

Seat belt violation

Kind of strange that his vehicle would be searched after he was stopped for a seat belt violation. Obviously, some info was out THERE.

Kenny Hanna is the operator

Kenny Hanna is the operator of the Robert C Daniel location. He was formerly the operator of the mall location and was moved to RCD when the previous operator was removed from his position. John Hughes took over the Augusta Mall location.

37 is way to old to be doing stuff like this...carrying drugs and a weapon in your car...

@ katysh

We interviewed him for a story when the restaurant opened. He told us then that he was a co-owner.

Chick-fil-a

I spoke with Michael Brown, the former owner of Chick-fil-a on Robert C Daniel Jr Pkwy. He is not the same person referenced in this story. I removed any comment that suggested otherwise. Apologies to him. I should have been more proactive in removing them.
