Diane Ambrose, of the 600 block of Hampton Circle, was charged with reckless conduct. Ambrose, 44, was being held in the Richmond County jail on a $1,300 bond.
About two weeks ago, the victim, who is 12 weeks pregnant, said she became sick with lower intestinal issues after eating a snack cake given to her by Ambrose, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s incident report.
The following day, the victim began having complications with her pregnancy. Her doctor informed the teacher she had become at high risk for a miscarriage, according to the report.
On Wednesday, another student told the teacher that Ambrose confessed to injecting a foreign substance into the snack cake. Ambrose said the substance would cause the teacher to be sick but would not harm the child, the witness told deputies.
The incident report did not identify the substance, and a sheriff’s office public information officer said he was not familiar with the case and did not know what it was.
The teacher told police she did not know her illness was connected to the snack cake until the student told her Wednesday it was tainted.
