A North Augusta woman was arrested Wednesday after being accused of giving her Virginia College teacher a tainted snack cake that a doctor said could cause the teacher to have a miscarriage.

Diane Ambrose, of the 600 block of Hampton Circle, was charged with reckless conduct. Ambrose, 44, was being held in the Richmond County jail on a $1,300 bond.

About two weeks ago, the victim, who is 12 weeks pregnant, said she became sick with lower intestinal issues after eating a snack cake given to her by Ambrose, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s incident report.

The following day, the victim began having complications with her pregnancy. Her doctor informed the teacher she had become at high risk for a miscarriage, according to the report.

On Wednesday, another student told the teacher that Ambrose confessed to injecting a foreign substance into the snack cake. Ambrose said the substance would cause the teacher to be sick but would not harm the child, the witness told deputies.

The incident report did not identify the substance, and a sheriff’s office public information officer said he was not familiar with the case and did not know what it was.

The teacher told police she did not know her illness was connected to the snack cake until the student told her Wednesday it was tainted.

Does your "crime map" match

this story? It appears your reporter has High Hampton Drive confused for Hampton Circle. I may be wrong.

An apple for the teacher instead!

What on earth is behind this sickening story? What motivated this student to do this? Or is she just a troubled soul (photo makes her look a little deranged)? And what college is involved - story doesn't say, though since she was booked in Richmond County I suppose that narrows it down a bit. More info please.

Sick Joke!!

I think there is a Hampton Circle in the Belvedere area of North Augusta off Belvedere-Clearwater Rd. This seems to me to have been a prank turned very bad. I don't think she expected these extreme results. Regardless of that she needs to have the book thrown at her with federal charges of tampering with a food product if they apply in this case.

Prank!!! No this is intentional assault. She should be booted out of college for being a moron. If the teacher miscarriages then the women should be charged with murder and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The map obviously has no bearing on the story. I removed it.

Reckless conduct? She poisons

Reckless conduct? She poisons someone and gets a lightweight charge? Seems premeditated to me and that's not reckless.

Whats her final grade?

Curious as to her motivation.

Curious as to her motivation. Innocent pranks aside, when you impact someone's health, that's pushing it too far.

Sometimes...

Sometimes it's like Jackie Gleason used to say to Alice -- "sometimes POW, right in the kisser". Although I have never slapped a woman, this incident might justify one, and then followed up by the question, "What in the hell were you thinking"? Thankfully since my wife teaches in a Middle School, I still feel safe in eating Christmas goodies that are sent in by parents. Man, I'd hate to have to give those goodies up...

Virginia College, eh?

Thanks, but it would have been nice if that had been in the original story.

i find this really hard to believe but then again i don't... I know her first hand, yes she was a sweet lady and she don't see like a person that would do something like this but she is that kinda crazy. I'm just glad she didn't mess with any of my food when i dated her son! I'm sorry for that teacher.
