About 1:10 a.m., Richmond County sheriff’s deputies responded to a burglar alarm at a home in the 3500 block of Woodlake Drive, according to an incident report.
When deputies arrived, they found six juveniles alone in the house, ranging from 2 to 10 years old. Police then made contact with the mothers of the children, Temeshia Denise Williams, 30, and Porta Tanksley, 26, and asked them to return home.
Williams and Tanksley told police they left the house to go to Wal-Mart in North Augusta, and that an 18-year-old niece was supposed to be watching the children. The niece wasn’t at the scene at the time of the incident and couldn’t be contacted, the report said.
Police later obtained warrants for Williams and Tanksley’s arrest, and transported the two to the Augusta-Richmond County Jail. Both were booked on three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The children were turned over to family members.
