CHARLESTON, S.C. — A lawsuit against the Charleston County School District claims a high school teacher bullied a male student by repeatedly calling him gay, causing the student to attempt suicide.

The Post and Courier reports the boy’s mother filed the suit Aug 30. Her attorney, Philip Hammond, declined to say why the teacher wasn’t sued. A district spokesman declined to comment on pending litigation.

The lawsuit alleges the bullying began in April. The mother says the West Ashley High teacher repeatedly belittled her son in front of his classmates and encouraged other students to pick on him during class.

The suit says the emotional stress caused the unidentified student to become sick, and he attempted to hang himself. It says he’s being home-schooled now and receiving mental health counseling.

You have to know why the teacher is not being sued.

This type of lawyer knows to go after whoever has the deep pockets.

The teacher should be named in the suit right along with

the school system. S/he needs to be identified. Teachers like that have their pets, the ones they pamper and the ones they like to torture. You'd think that would have gone away by now, but I'm really not all that surprised.

They were in my high school in Savannah, and they were in my child's high school in Augusta. They deserve to be flogged, publicly.

Lawsuit, lawsuit, lawsuit

Enough lawyers and lawsuits! Lingering questions:
1. Was the kid gay or not? Article does not say.
2. Is being gay really an insult these days? And here I though it was a fashionable badge of honor according to the media.
3. What's the teacher's name?
